Swan has allegedly misled the United Nations about the election development in Somalia. However, having close ties with President Farmajo, the matter was diffused over the period of time. Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and his cabinet have also accused Farmajo of inciting a coup after the president suspended the government last year. In September 2021, the president withdrew all executive powers of the prime minister, alleging that he has “violated the transitional constitution.”

On numerous occasions, the Special envoy has held meetings with the incumbent president with the agenda to resolve the election deadlock in Somalia. However, Somalia’s opposing leaders have stood their ground to ensure the return of peace and stability in the country. Even after more than a year of conclusion of his presidency, Farmajo continue to rule the country in caretaker capacity till Somalia holds elections.
Years of crisis and conflict have forced Somali people to live in critical circumstances, with thousands of people fleeing the country and many living without basic necessities such as safe drinking water and food. Military group Al Shahab has also intensified its attacks on Somali armed forces and political leaders, raising concerns over insecurity in the Horn of Africa.
