Canberra: Australia’s top military officer on Thursday admitted there was credible evidence his special forces unlawfully killed at least 39 Afghanistan civilians and non-combatants, as the results of a damning years-long investigation were published.
“To the people of Afghanistan, on behalf of the Australian defence force I sincerely and unreservedly apologise for any wrongdoing by Australian soldiers,” General Angus Campbell said, recommending prosecution on war crimes charges.
