DUBAI: Four people have been killed after an Abu Dhabi air ambulance crashed Saturday, Abu Dhabi police said.
In a tweet, authorities said two pilots, a civilian doctor and nurse were killed.
The dead are Khamis Saeed Al-Holi, Mohamad Al-Rashidi, Shahid Farouk Gholam and Joel Qiui Sakara Minto.
It gave no details or explanation on what caused the crash or where it happened – but a tweet said the team were on duty at the time.
But hours earlier Abu Dhabi Police introduced speed restrictions in the emirate due to heavy fog.
“Abu Dhabi police calls on motorists to exercise caution due to reduced visibility due to fog. They are urged to follow changing speed limits displayed on electronic information boards,” it said in a tweet.
“The General Command of Abu Dhabi Police extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to their families, acquaintances and co-workers,” it said in a statement.
The first fog warning was issued at 11:33pm on Friday, with more sent out through the night.
The areas affected were Bani Yas, Al Faya and Mohammed Bin Rashid road in the UAE capital.
Abu Dhabi Police eventually announced at 8am Saturday that “speed limits on Abu Dhabi Emirate’s external roads are back to normal.”
