Human sacrifice: Man arrested in Bihar for killing his nephew in bid to cure ill daughter

Patna: Police in Bihar have arrested a man after he was accused of sacrificing his seven-year-old nephew to cure his ailing three-month-old daughter on a black magician’s advice. The horrible incident took place in Jamui district over the weekend.

Police said the little kid was playing outside the village when the main accused Toofani Yadav, 35, lured the boy by offering him a packet of biscuits, took him to a lonely place near the jungle and chopped him to death. Before committing the crime, the accused had performed tantric acts inside a hut and also consumed intoxicants to commit the crime, according to the police.

“The accused performed the human sacrifice to cure his ailing daughter on the advice of a local black magician. The sword used in the crime has also been recovered,” Jamui’s district superintendent of police Pramod Kumar Mandal told the media on Monday. He added the victim boy was the very own nephew of the accused.

Five arrested

The police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder so far. They include the main accused, his sexagenarian mother, 31-year-old wife, his younger brother and the black magician Janardan Giri, 50. “While the two women instigated the accused to slaughter the kid, the black magician had performed the tantrik act,” the police said.

“The accused had a son who died within two months of his birth last year while his daughter too had been sick right since her birth, so he contacted the tantric (black magician) on wife’s instigation. He was reportedly advised by the tantric that it was his nephew who was causing all the problems and must be sacrificed to bring good luck in the family,” local police official in charge of the investigation Pankaj Kumar Paswan told the media on Monday.

Police said they had gathered enough evidence in the case and would file the charge-sheet very soon so that the case could be speedily tried.
