Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah today tested positive for coronavirus.
The CM caught the infection a day after the Sindh province reported highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day during the second wave of deadly infectious disease in the country.
A spokesman for the Chief Minister House said the Shah had felt a light fever on Friday. He was tested for the coronavirus infection after the Friday prayers. The spokesman said the CM had isolated himself on the advice of doctors. Apart from the light fever, the rest of the health condition of the CM is much better, said the spokesman.
On Sunday, the Sindh province conducted 11,353 tests for detection of coronavirus infection as out of them 942 (8.29 per cent) turned out to be positive i.e. highest number of new COVID-19 cases in the province, during the second wave, in a single day during the span of 24 hours. Out of these 942 new patients, 624 belong to Karachi.
Critical condition
During the previous 24 hours, nine more patients of COVID-19 died while 290 people suffering from coronavirus infection recovered. The province at present has a total of 10,226 patients of coronavirus infection as condition of 379 of them has been critical. Thirty-eight patients of COVID-19 have been on ventilators in different hospitals of Sindh.
Sindh CM in his message to the people of Sindh in the previous day appealed for them to observe the government-recommended standard operating procedures against spreading COVID-19.
The Sindh CM around eight months back led an aggressive campaign of his government to keep people of the province secure from the infection as the lockdown measures were imposed in Sindh days earlier as compared to the rest of the country. On 26 February, 2020, Pakistan reported first case of coronavirus infection as the first lockdown measure the country witnessed was closure of educational institutions in Sindh ordered by the CM.
